Role Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead and manage our core financial and accounting operations. In addition to overseeing company finances, monthly reporting, and the annual audit, this individual will collaborate with senior management and product development to optimize financial controls and disbursement services for our clients.
The Controller will play a critical role in supporting the company’s financial strategy, audit readiness, compliance posture, and operational scalability as we continue to grow. This role requires a balance of strategic oversight and hands-on execution, with a strong focus on risk management and financial discipline. This role is essential to building a financially sound, audit-ready, and risk-aware foundation for our company’s continued growth. The Controller will ensure financial health and operational discipline while enabling strategic decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly close.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, company policies, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Produce timely and accurate financial statements and internal reports for leadership and investors.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of financial processes and controls to support audit-readiness and risk mitigation.
- Oversee the annual financial audit as well as the annual BaaS audit required by our banking partner.
Systems, Tools & Process Optimization
- Evaluate, implement, and maintain financial systems (ERP, payroll, expense management, etc.) to support scalability and automation.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce manual work across accounting and finance functions.
Strategic Support & Business Partnership
- Partner with the Executive Team to support forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow planning.
- Provide financial insights and risk assessments to inform strategic decisions across the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Compliance, Product, and Operations, to support company-wide initiatives.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- CPA (or equivalent certification).
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience at a high-growth technology company or regulated industry.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and internal control frameworks (SOC 2, etc.).
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks and Bill.com).
